The Highlands Ranch Triathlon Series is a local race series here in the Denver area that has picked up some steam in recent years. All the swims are in local Highlands Ranch pools. The bike rides and runs can have a bit of challenge since HR is generally a hilly area. They are great triathlons for those looking for a “first tri” or might want a nice supported training race. They are very well orchestrated events.
I happen to have two entries to each of the three events for my most recent giveaway! Race entires! Whooo Wahhhh! These events came to me via RunColo and I am so excited to be able to give them away here. So, cruise the details and then read below how you can enter to win them.
- Highlands Ranch Tune Up Triathlon: June 5th 2010. This sprint distance tri is a great first timers tri. The swim is in a pool and the bike is two loops so your family can cheer up a storm.
- Highlands Ranch Tri N July: July 17, 2010. This tri has a pool swim and is a little longer than a sprint distance (14 mile bike, 4 mile run).
- Highlands Ranch Splash Mash Dash: August 21st, 2010. This race has both sprint and olympic distances and the swim is a unique two pool swim where you swim in one pool, then you run up two flights of stairs and into pool #2.
As I said I have two entries to each event. One of those entries will go to someone who has raced less than 3 tris in their life (and I would love for it to be a beginner). The second is up for grabs, no restrictions what so ever. So, to get in the lottery you need to leave a comment here stating either
- For the <3 tri people How many tri’s have you done, which race entry are you wanting (you can choose all of them), and why do you want to get into triathlons.
- For those with >3 tris I want to know which tri’s you are interested in (you can choose all of them) and I want a compelling reason why you want the entry.
- Additionally, leaving a comment is required for entry, but if you would like an additional entry, tweet this blog post, including @gosonja. And if you would like one more entry, link this post into your own personal blog.
You have three days! On Friday morning I will pull names out of a hat, and notify the winners. If you have been thinking about entering a tri this year, now it’s the time to take the plunge!

I would love to enter. I have done exactly 3 triathlons. The three of them have been Sprint Triathlons. One of them was put together by a neighbor and the other two were the Super Sprint Cache Valley Tri. I would love to try out any one of the tris.
This year is my very first year doing a bigger tri: going out for Boise 70.3
.
I will start by saying that the HR series has a special place in my heart – the HR Tune up tri was my very first triathlon EVER three years ago. I was nervous as hell, and so very proud of myself for completing it. And then I was hooked. For life. I have a tradition of doing the Tune Up tri every year, because I love remembering that first triathlon, because it’s in my backyard (literally almost goes by my house!) and because it’s an awesome, well-run series that attracts both pros and first-timers, which I absolutely love. I was unable to do the Tune Up last year, as I was 6 months pregnant, but I volunteered for it, which was a really cool experience. This year, the Tune Up will have special meaning for me. Not only is it my first tri back after a summer off being pregnant, but it is my first tri back after being diagnosed with breast cancer at 36 weeks pregnant. Triathlon was the thing that kept me going, mentally and physically, through a double mastectomy and 4 months of chemo, and triathlon is the thing that I long to do, after a much too long hiatus. So I hope to see tons of folks doing the HR series – I’ll be the one out there with a “don’t mess with me, I kicked cancer’s ass” T-shirt on. I am so excited to get back to a sport I love, and not a moment too soon.
My dear Sonja,
Please put my name in the hat for the Tune-up Tri. As you know I have never done a Tri since I can’t do that whole swimming thing. I have long said that I would take lessons and one of the things on my to-do list for this year was to try a tri. If I do win an entry I guess that would finally motivate my butt to stop talking about learning to swim and actually sign up for some lessons. I am only interested in doing the Tune-up.
Thanks for the chance.
Becky
PS Amy McD really deserves it…
Never done this but have been training and it was a New Year’s resolution!
Hi Sonja! I just discovered your website, and was thrilled to read about this triathlon series! I’ve only done 2 triathlons, starting last year, but have been bitten with the bug severely, and can’t wait to do more! My busy schedule as a single dad makes it tough to train sometimes, but I’m committed to elevating my fitness, while using it as an opportunity to grow closet to my 3-year old daughter. She loves to swim and ride in her seat on my bike, so we have fun “training” together. I’m very interested in both the Tune Up race, as well as the 3rd Olympic-distance race, because I’d really like to push myself, as I’ve only done sprint distance races before. Thanks for your consideration, and for this wonderful website!
I would love an entry to either of the first two tris! I have never done one before, but it is on my to-do list. I love to run and swim but am terrified of my bike (I tend to fall off it a lot), so that’s been my mental roadblock for actually signing up for one. As a poor grad student though, I have learned never to pass up something free, so if I get one of the entries I would have no excuse for not doing it!
Hi Sonja,
I would love the opportunity to do the Highlands Ranch Tune Up. I’ve never done a triathalon before, but I think I would absolutely love it. I have been pregnant/nursing the past 4 years, so I have not yet had an opportunity, but now that I am done having kids, I feel like I am ready to do something for me.
Thanks for consideration,
Candy
I would love to do one of last two tri’s. (July or August) The first one is the same weekend as Elephant Rock Cycling Festival. I have done exactly 2 triathlons (last season) and planning at least three this year. My main motivation for triathlon came when my brother (my number one athletic hero) lost his gait to MS. I decided I would would become the athlete he couldn’t be.
Thanks for is opportnity!

SONJA!!! That’s me trying to get your attention, as in, “ooooh, ooooh, pick me!” I have done exactly 2 tri’s. Both in Tucson, AZ and none in CO. And then my bike was stolen. I have since picked up a new bike, my wife gave me a beautiful new little girl, and I don’t have money to race. I don’t have anything truly compeling like cancer (May God bless you Amy McD! You’re a champ!) or a sick kid (Thank God), just a passion for racing and a true love of the sport! It would be awesome to have the opportunity to race the Tri N July or the Olympic distance Splash Mash Dash if you would be so gracious. Thanks Sonja!
Cheers.

The HR tri series rocks!
I’ve definitely done more than 3 tris, but as an about-to-be-full-time-student, the budget for race entry fees has gotten a LOT tighter this year, so I would love the opportunity to feed my racing addiction for free! I wish I could enter for the Tune-up and participate in that awesome race for a third year in a row, but there’s a good chance I’ll be out of town that weekend, so can you put me down for entry for the Tri-n-July and the Splash-Mash-Dash?
xoxo

Hello. Not sure if you have picked a winner yet, but I would love to be considered. I have done one tri and loved it. I am also encouraging my daughter to do the children’s tri. She is 11 and I would love her to get an early start.
