Well, here they come. The National Championships for all us age groupers and pro’s that like the Olympic distance. I leave a week from Thursday and it’s getting down to the wire.

Waves have been assigned. I am wave 9, and I depart the shore at 8:12 am. Tyler is a few minutes behind so I plan to swim and bike my fanny off in hopes of delay the time it will take for him to catch me. But when he does it’s gonna be a throw down. We’ve been training together all season so let the spanking begin.

If you are coming out to the race, you might want to think about staying all day. My parents have agreed to bring some snacks to hold everyone over (okay not the entire race, but friends and such) until the $25 pre awards dinner. I got my tickets, do you??

The pro races go off at noon and 2:15, and I’m excited to see Jocelyn and Jordan kill the course.

Weather? Well, it’s not 10 days out yet, so I can’t quite know, but the next ten days in Portland look like awesome weather, and that gets me to the day before I arrive. I have put in a request to the weather gods for “the kind of weather Sonja races best in”.

Friday morning is a pancake breakfast at our hotel suite, hosted by Michelle, Tyler and I. Call me when you get into town if ya wanna come.

Event homepage is here if you need more details.

  1. Okay, good news! I will be at your race, with Tana and my Mom in tow, and then we are heading up to Washington to see my sister for the weekend. So, I don’t think Bob’s Red Mill is going to work, but I am really looking forward to cheering my a$$ off for you! Go Sonja! See you in Portland!

  2. We just finished reading your blog and can feel the excitement. It is contagious. We are excited for you and we know that you will do your best. With all of the hard work you have done, your love of the sport and your enthusiastic spirit, you are already a big time winner. Our thoughts will be with you when wave 9 starts and throughout the race. You are very special to us.

  3. Hil – So it looks like they will have shuttles running all day long to the race and back for spectators.

Becky – We are at the Larkspur Landing near Hilsboro. I get in Thursday morning, give me a call on my cell if ya wanna hook up!

  4. What hotel are you guys in? We are downtown Portland but Steve’s conference is all day Wed-Fri so Andrew and I are just going to be wandering around. Maybe we can meet sometime.

  5. I’m still in debate as to whether or not I can make it. I really want to but that weekend may be the only time I get to see my sister, and no offense, but spending all day at your race while 20 weeks pregnant isn’t the most appealing. I say let’s try to hook up for Bob’s Red Mill. (They need a flour of the month club or something like that!)

  6. OK,,,First we will be helping each other go fast, second I cant wait. I am excited for this weekend and look forward ot rooming with team “Where did you go” plus One.
