Haha I love that I came on to tell about Sean's 45 degree angle trick and that Laura beat me to it! But yea, I always try to have the water line hitting the middle of my forehead. I used to look straight ahead...like way too much, when I was first starting out, so I was told to look straight down, chin in chest. ..I think that's good advice for beginners, but then as you progress you want to look ahead slightly so your body stays aligned. =)

I like the process not progress mantra. Shaun has been encouraging me to look up at a 45 degree angle. At first it hurt, but then I noticed I was a lot less sore in my neck/shoulders as I adjusted. I'm still mostly oblivious to what's going on in the water, but sighting is much easier, I only take big sights every 12-16 strokes now, because I can sneak in some mini ones. I think my new mantra for running form is "run so you can still be running in 5 years" at this point - so, not fast :-) Excited for track day next week!

What an ususual problem (or at least that I'm aware of). Most swimmers have trouble with having their head to high or looking too forward. I don't know how I would swim with my chin to my chest.

No kidding about whatever makes you faster. I have basically 3 mantra's that I am working on that has helped me. 1) "Anchor", boy do I notice a difference when I'm anchoring my hand and bringing my body to the hand instead of forcing myself though the water with my arms 2) "belly button to back" and 3) "swim downhill" (which helps keep my head straight down)!
