May 8th - Every Day in May

I woke up naturally after 6.5 hours of sleep last night kinda bummed out that I didn’t get more. I also went to bed a little later to see if it would effect things, and I woke up in the middle of some crazy flipping dreams that were absolutely wild! Great for the sleep journal and they made me laugh all day long. I can’t even share them, they are too embarrassing.

Health is Physical:

Friday is hard workout day for Annie, and I kept her company through 9 hill repeats (rather short hills so lots of quality), then 2x800 meters, and then 9 more hill repeats. She ran away from me on every one, which I very much enjoy hoofing along behind, #momintow. It makes me really proud and happy to run behind her and we have lots of fun between intervals. Today we channeled our inner mountain goats and made a fair amount of goat sounds. It was a great workout and I think I will be less sore than I was last week. Also, thanks to my tall little fast rabbit I surprised myself with a second 3:16 800, while the rabbit’s were both sub 3. I haven’t run fast in so long, it actually feels good. I forgot how much it stirs up endorphins and makes you feel so good about yourself.

But, that’s not my healthy physical action for the day! I have been waking up really creaky these days, and it’s now been months since I’ve been to Gymnazo. I can feel the difference and it’s time to start getting a routine for body care back going. Today I just dabbled with a foam rolling and stretching routine for runners, I found here. It made my heart ache for CJ, Jonathan, Kaleena and Mitch at Gymnazo, they always know exactly what I need to do to stay healthy.

Health is Mental/Emotional:

My metal health task today was to find a my next area of study. I went searching in earnest and after writing yesterdays blog and a chat with a close friend I realized I was being pulled to the immune system. I have had periods in my life when I get sick more easily than others, and my husband got sick much more in Colorado than he does in California. In fact, we all get sick less here in Cali. I have more questions than answers about the immune system, a key component to whole health, and after some research I on landed on a book called The Beautiful Cure, my Daniel Davis. The reviews promised less foo-foo and more research and that’s what sold me over other books.

I listened to a little bit this evening and in the introduction the author said stress, old age, time of day, and state of mind all effect the immune system, and I was like…. tell me more!

Health is Spiritual:

I felt the need for a long meditation today and sat for 25 minutes. It must have been needed because it was one of those sittings where it felt like 5 minutes. I also realized mid meditation that half a loaf of banana bread that was left over from this morning was missing from the cutting board. My mind reminded me that we went out for tacos for dinner and left the dog home alone. The same dog that was squirming at my side, farting, and wanting her belly scratched.

Back to the breath, back to the breath.

Does location matter in meditation? Why do I seek certain spots in the house? I have two favorites. One is my treasured rocking chair next to my bed and the other is the corner of the living room. Kinda like a cat… I seem to gravitate to specific energetic locations in the house. I wish I knew why.

Insights

Well, I’m obviously wishing the dog hadn’t eaten the banana bread. That’s the first insight of the day. We are headed into the weekend and I’m looking forward to some long runs, some garden tending, and finishing the fiction book I’m in the middle of. This #everydayinmay is becoming so luxurious and decadent. I’m so glad I decided to do it. It’s changed my mental outlook immensely and I feel closer to who I wish I was every day.

Until tomorrow… in good health.
