May 17th - Every Day in May
Today was a lazy Sunday for sure. Sleeping in, making burgers, watching the soft rain blanket down. It’s good to have days of rest, time to think, and the space to get ready for the week.
Health is Physical:
I slipped in a late evening run after dinner up to the MDO sign and back home. It was a foggy run with a bit of rain here and there. I made it home just after dark with a wet and smelly dog, happy to make my mileage goal for the week (45) with a body feeling better at the end of the week than the beginning. I’ve been virtually making my way across Tennessee in the GVRAT Race and 16% of the way across, approaching Hornsby. I wonder how many people will actually run across Tennessee after this is over… maybe I will!
Health is Mental/Emotional:
I needed a break from Immunity today and dove into the book Lean & Strong by Josh Hillis who I went to high school with. I’ve followed Josh’s career and he’s really on the forefront of a whole health approach to fitness. He loves the psychological aspects of health and wellness and he is extremely good at balancing behavior change with concrete recommendations. So today, I sat down and consumed some of his knowledge bombs for my mental healthy task. I already know I am going to eat his book up. More to come…
Health is Spiritual
I meditated for 40 minutes today because I needed it. Bottom line. Some days 20 minutes feels like more than enough but today an extra long session felt luxurious and helpful. I also downloaded a new book onto my Kindle called Care of the Soul: A Guide for Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life, and I’m giddy about starting it tomorrow. Can I just sit in a warm corner tomorrow with hot cocoa and read until I’m tired? I think I might.
Insights
Short update today as I am tired and ready for sleep.
Until tomorrow… in good health.
