Whole30: Day 14 - Okay, this S#%t is Getting Creepy
Wake Up: 10am Yes, I got 11 uninterrupted hours of sleep last night. I needed them! When I got off the airplane last night I felt so puffy and inflamed from the flight. I was sore, had a headache and just wanted my bed! Troy being the amazing man that he is went to the store and even BAKED sweet potatoes for me that night so I would have Whole30 food in the morning to eat. Love, true love!
So I wake up and the first thing I do is walk downstairs...what? What is this?? Okay, I am not NEARLY as sore as I usually am. I'm kinda freaked out by it, but the long and short of it is that I am about as sore as I usually am 4 days after Ironman and it's the morning of Day 2 after Ironman. Like NOTICEABLY less sore. The stairs are fine, aches and pains are very minimal. Now I didn't go run around the block or anything, but I can tell my body is MUCH happier than it's ever been. I'm like....really good.... What?? Insane!
Breakfast: 11:20pm
Can I call this breakfast....when you wake up at 10am...yes you can! I had scrambled eggs with spinach and salsa, a sweet potato with ghee, and some cantaloupe. It was divine. Cooking in my kitchen was divine, everything was GREAT.
Lunch Snack Thing: 3:30pm
Having eaten Breakfast so late I didn't quite know what to do here. I was hungry when it was time to go get Annie from school so Troy and I shared a PaleoKit while walking to pick her up. I had about 1/2 of it. Troy loved it and was like "Order more of these" so I'm going to. These things are life savers.
Dinner: 6:20pm
This was classic. I went to Costco with Annie after I picked her up from school. She got a piece of pizza at Costco and called Troy and he put in his order for a slice. So the two of them had eaten. I got home and I was HUNGRY, like now! I had some cans of tuna and I knew Michelle at Balancing Paleo had something genius to do with tuna so I called her. I haven't talked to her in years and she answers the phone and says "Hello Ironman Champion" and I say "What do I do with TUNA?" She tells me and I say thank you and hang up. 45 seconds TOPS. You know you have a friend for life when this sort of behavior is allowed. I love her and her family so much and she really has been an inspiration to me.
So, via Michelle...take the can of tuna, drain it and dump it in a bowl with a sweet potato. Heat that up in the microwave and smash it all together. squeeze a lemon on it and I added some RSR (duh...) and ghee. I had 1/2 an avocado on the side. IT WAS SO GOOD! I never would have put these ingredients together and that is the genius that Michelle is. She has a great palate and today is her day 30 of Whole 30! Congratulations Mich!!!!
Homework:
Today they talked about kitchen gadgets. I love kitchen gadgets! My favorite is my Lemon Juicer, Michelle introduced me to hers many years ago and I use mine every single day. Every day! I'm going to get a Julienne Peeler and also an Avocado Saver. The email suggested those and I think I will really use them, the endless baggies for 1/2 an avocado is wasteful for sure. I would love a Mandolin, I've wanted one for years but I can never convince Troy they are worth the money, you know being that I have MANY ways to chop things. But OHHHH I want a mandolin! But of course I want a good one, the expensive kind. haha!
Mostly today I'm just in shock about my Ironman recovery. I have been thinking about it all day, I even talked with my coach about it, and I'm pretty sure this is an inflammation thing. Ironman creates A LOT of inflammation and then afterwards we tend to eat pizza and drink margaritas, and have ice cream. All this food is highly inflammatory on a body that is already very inflamed. So I think when I dumped in a ton of veggies (and coach wants me to add ginger to the mix) it helped my body have the tools to recover from the Ironman, and it didn't ADD to the damage. It was like a double positive. I am completely amazed. I would have expected this after a sub par performance, but after the fastest Ironman of my life on a very CONCRETE marathon course (lots of pounding), I am shocked!
Also, I haven't weighed myself (it's the rules) but I talked to my close friend Jim today and he said I looked skinny. You can always depend on your training partners for the truth. Interesting. I haven't felt much of a change in my clothes, but that's expected, I pretty much wear lululemon stretchy pants every day (oh the life I have).
Mood Grade: A+
