May 3rd - Every Day in May

Last night I tried going to bed when I was sleepy (11:55pm) and waking up naturally without an alarm (8:02am). I was refreshed, positive, and kinda felt like a million bucks. My muscle soreness was greatly reduced and the time it took me to get going into my day felt quicker than usual. Interesting….

May 2nd - Every Day in May

Day 2 was off to a stiff start after sleeping in until 9am, and then rolling out of bed so sore it was as if I had just run a marathon. Apparently Annie’s track workout and the 6x300 meters at 5:20 pace was beyond my capabilities at this point. And she was doing 600s, I only joined her for the last 1/2.

May 1st - Every Day in May

Well, okay, holy moly, I did it, I put myself back out there. Whew, can I just say, before I get into everything, that today was a big day for me. It was a step towards taking back ownership of something I love, my blog. I haven’t stopped writing in the last three years, but I have stopped blogging, and there is a difference between the two…

Achiever.

I took the Gallup Strengthfinder assessment a few days ago. Troy had taken it, and as with any assessment you immediately want to know how all your friends and family would score. Troy’s number 2 strength was the same as my number 1 strength and despite he and I being polar opposites in every other strength, we shared one common quality.

Every Day in May - Prelude

I’ve been getting up every day playing with the concept of what does Whole Health mean? Really, what does it look like for me, what fits, what doesn’t? And when my friend Jonny told me the adage “Every Day in May” about a running streak he was thinking about taking on, I started wondering what “Every Day in May” would look like for me. What could I take on for 31 days?

Why is Finding a Calling so Stinking Hard?

Ever since the great Sonja downfall of 2017 my brain keeps coming back to this idea of a calling, or a purpose. I think because I was taken to my knees and I deleted or paused everything in my life, I starting asking myself why I was still here? For about a year I kept telling Troy that I think my time is close to ending on Earth, I had a feeling. It scared the crap out of him and I felt horrible about telling him, but I just felt this overwhelming…

The heart wants what the heart wants...

Yesterday I retired from triathlon.

I know, I know, I'm not a professional, and it seems a little dramatic. But for me, it's an important day.

I was supposed to race Santa Rosa 70.3 Saturday and I texted Muddy at 11:15pm Friday night telling him I wasn't going to race. I asked if I could take the bus to T1, grab my bike, hop in the car with him, and go to breakfast. He said yes.

Spooners Cove 25k

Dude..... things are shifting! Okay, so my grand plan to race North Face 13.1 and then do Spooners Cove 25k worked out really well for me. When I have events on the calendar it really keeps me focused on my training during the week. When I first got started in the sport in 2007 I raced like 50 events

Back in March I attended a really magical retreat with the AMAZING Tiffany Josephs. It was in Santa Barbara and we had an absolute blast. I got to run for hours along the beach every day and Tiffany crafted a really fun, refreshing, intuitive retreat for us complete with scavenger hunts, photo shoots, and cake by the ocean.....

KonMari What? It's Magic!

I year ago I heard some buzz about the #KonMari method of decluttering. Marie Kondo wrote a book called “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” and I had a few friends that were raving about it. A little before the beginning of the year my friend Andrea brought it up and for some reason (fate…luck) I instantly pulled it up on Amazon and downloaded it to my kindle.

Ironman Tahoe - A Run I'll Never Forget

I get out and running on the course and suddenly there is a guy on a bike with me. I asked if he was my lead biker and he said "are you Sonja Weeeek" and I said "yes" and he said, "then yes." I was pretty excited about this! The first mile was very twisty-turny as we wound through the village area, past the finish line, around the parking lots and finally

Lake Tahoe Training Camp

After Racing Santa Cruz 70.3, the following day Tony and I dropped Mo at the airport and headed up to Lake Tahoe for a week of training camp with Coach Muddy. There were rumors of very bad air quality and we needed to get up there and check it out. North lake was totally clear, but south lake was all smoke. You couldn’t

Santa Cruz 70.3 2015

Six months ago Muddy and I planned this fun epic double for the middle of the summer as good training block for my A race of the year which is Ironman Los Cabos on Oct 25th. He thought it would be awesome if I raced Santa Cruz 70.3 and then we headed up to Tahoe to train for a week and then raced
